Music legend Elton John is coming to Springfield. The announcement came today that Sir Elton will play JQH Arena Saturday, April 16th. Tickets go on sale March 19th at 10am. KSMU’s Missy Shelton has more.
Whether it’s a catchy hook like “Crocodile Rock” or a soulful melody like “Candle in the Wind,” Elton John and his music are etched into the collective consciousness of music fans across the world. The legendary performer will bring his greatest hits on the JQH Arena stage on Saturday, April 16th.
Keith Boaz is director of JQH Arena. He explains how this show came together.
“This show kind of popped up out of nowhere a little more than a month ago. The promoter of the show, Live Nation, just called out of the blue. We weren’t expecting that kind of call and asked if we had the weekend available. Fortunately, we did have it available. An artist of Elton John’s caliber typically doesn’t play buildings this size. He typically plays the 20,000 or bigger seat venues. That’s why we were a little caught off guard when they called. But he’s played every major building in the world and every now and then, they like to go somewhere they’ve never been.”
Boaz says he’s going to try to make room for up to 9,300 people to attend this concert. Boaz says having Elton John play at JQH Arena may help the venue attract other big name acts.
“It absolutely gets you on a different radar that you may not have been on before. Hopefully, it’s a spring board for other shows down the road.”
If you’re wondering how much it will set you back to see Elton John in Springfield, the best seats are $139, while the cheap seats are $29 and a mid-range price of $79 for mid-range seats.
