With the fall season in full-swing, the build-up of leaves is becoming evident. To combat the issue, the city is adjusting the hours of recycling centers. KSMU’s Justin Lux reports.

The fall season is a beautiful time of year, colors seem to come from every direction. The air is crisp and clean and the leaves are all around you.

To ensure that Springfield residents have the opportunity to properly dispose of their leaves, the city’s Yardwaste Recycling Center and Lone Pine Recycling Center will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoons until December 5th.

Along with the extended hours for fall leaf season, the two centers and the Franklin Avenue location have begun their winter hours. The facilities will accept yardwaste and brush from 8:00a.m. until 5:00p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The centers are closed on Mondays.

The YRC will also be adjusting their winter hours for mulch and compost products. They will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The city asks that residents get rid of their yardwaste in more environmentally friendly ways by mulching the leaves or by using the recycling facilities.
