A two-day symposium in honor of George Washington Carver will take place in Springfield and Diamond, Missouri on Oct. 17 and 18. KSMU's Alvin Chen reports.

Carver was born in southwest Missouri during the Civil War. He was a noted scientist, educator, and humanitarian who contributed to the environmental and agricultural movements.

Paxton Williams is the executive director of The George Washington Carver Birthplace Association in Diamond, Missouri.

Williams says the symposium will be a living memorial to Carver, and there'll be a full schedule of events.

Williams adds that volunteers are needed for the symposium. For more information, you can call 325-4251. On the web, you can visit carversfriends.org.
