The State of Missouri has developed a campaign to help Missourians save on gasoline. KSMU's Kristian Kriner reports.
The "Saving Green on Gasoline" campaign offers advice and information to help drivers in Missouri cut the amount they spend on fuel.
The U.S Department of Energy says gas prices will be over $3.00 a gallon by the end of this month and throughout April.
Kerry Cordray is the spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources' Energy Center.
"Some prices that are going to be in the three and a half dollar range possibly during the spring of the year here in Missouri. It is likely though that after that run up things will ease back to the level of things we are seeing right now," Cordray said.
Cordray says there are several driving techniques to limit gas consumption.
"Like planning your driving routes to avoid congested areas, avoiding extensive warm ups, smooth and moderate acceleration, I call it driving gently. Cutting down the amount of idling you do. There are a lot of things people can do in the terms of those driving techniques," Cordray said.
Cordray says other gas saving techniques are getting tune-ups regularly, cleaning the air filter, and keeping tire pressure at recommended levels.
He says residents can stop using their cars and try ride sharing, which cuts gas costs in half, or riding the bus.
Cordray says the "Saving Green on Gasoline" campaign's main goal is to make people aware of ways to conserve fuel.
