The Department of Health and Senior Services recommends families get together to make plans for emergencies during the holiday season. KSMU's Christy Hendricks reports.
Since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf coast in August and September, there's been increased interest in Missouri in prepraring for emergencies.
Nanci Gonder is a public information officer for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services
DHSS has a website called "Ready in 3" which gives some tips for families preparing for emergencies.
Gonder recommends packing water, canned food, a battery-powered radio, flashlights, and medicine in an emergency kit that can be kept in the car or home.
