Missouri State University President Michael Nietzel Monday at Plaster Student Union, brought the campus community up to date on the status of and plans for the university. The speech, delivered in a conversational way using a power point program, was Nietzel's first public address since July when he became president of the state's second largest university system. Mike Smith has the story:

The theme of his October 3rd addresss was "New Name New Expectations," and in his opening remarks, Missouri State University President Michael Nietzel said by acheiving 5 goals, he hopes to direct the university through some of the most important challenges, themes, and opportunities that face the institution. Thos goals include: Democratize Society; Incubate New Ideas; Imagine Missouri's Future; and Model Ethical Behavior.

Nietzel said some changes would be necessary, including

making academic standards more rigorous, and raising minority enrollment.

On tuition, Nietzel said the university should look at weather it is charging enough. The current rate is more than 54 hundred dollars for one year of classes.
