The author of a book on the possible link between thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative in vaccines and autism was in Springfield recently. The book, entitled "Evidence of Harm" features the stories of several Missouri families with autistic children. In this, the third part of our series examining both sides of the issue, KSMU's Missy Shelton asked a local physician to discuss the possibility of a link between mercury in vaccines and autism.

Shelton: I recently spoke with Springfield pediatrician Dr. Robert Steele. He works at St. John's Health System and he's also the chairman of the Advisory Committee for Childhood Immunizations for the state of Missouri. We had this conversation in his Springfield office
