You should begin teaching your child to talk from the beginning of that child's life. To help parents guide their children through the proper developmental sequences related to talking, Cox health systems is offering a free program called "teaching your child to talk-baby steps."

Linda a. Terry, a speech pathologist at Cox north will help teach the class. She says it's designed for parents of children from birth to 5 years old. Targeting the younger age group is important, terry says because learning to talk starts the day a baby is born.

Terry says there are opportunities each day for parents to teach their children to talk. She has an example.

Being aware of developmental milestones in speech is important according to Terry. She says knowing the level at which a child should be talking is critical in identifying early signs of speech problems.
