The City of Springfield’s Environmental Services kicks off a new series Tuesday night, November 13.  The goal of EnviroFlick is to spur discussion of environmental topics.

The first film in the series, “Wasted: The Story of Food Waste,” will be shown at 6:30 at the Springfield Art Museum.  It sheds light on the global issue of food waste and offers possible solutions and features celebrity chefs from around the world.

According to a news release from the City of Springfield, "“Wasted! The Story of Food Waste” aims to change the way people buy, cook, recycle and eat food. Through the eyes of chef-heroes like Anthony Bourdain, Dan Barber, Mario Batali, Massimo Bottura, and Danny Bowien, audiences will see how the world’s most influential chefs make the most of every kind of food, transforming what most people consider scraps into incredible dishes that create a more secure food system. Wasted! Exposes the criminality of food waste and how it’s directly contributing to climate change and shows us how each of us can make small changes – all of them delicious – to solve one of the greatest problems of the 21st century."

A panel discussion, with representatives from Springfield Community Gardens, Ozarks Food Collaborative and Ozarks Food Harvest will take place after the film.

“We’re always looking for new ways to engage with the community that aren’t just another lecture,” said Sustainability and Market Development Coordinator Ashley Krug. “Movies give us the opportunity to have that community engagement in a way that’s fun and informative. What better way to do that than bring together two things that people love, food and movies!”
