For the second straight year, Missouri State University has one of its own drafted to the NFL. KSMU’s Adam Hammons has more on how MSU’s offensive lineman David Arkin became a professional athlete on Saturday.

In the 110th overall pick, the Dallas Cowboys selected Missouri State’s David Arkin. Arkin was the 14th pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. This is the second highest pick in MSU history, next to Tom Mullen, who was selected 28th overall in 1974. Rick Kindhart is the director of athletic communications at MSU. “I think it’s certainly a great day for Missouri State football for sure, and for him to be able to join the National Football League and play with the Dallas Cowboys, I think it’s going to be a great experience for him and certainly something our program should be proud of.”KSMU was not able to reach Arkin for comment. However, Kindhart says Arkin was extremely excited and is looking forward to training in Dallas and playing in the NFL. Last year the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Bears tight end Clay Harbor, making Arkin the second MSU Bear in two years to be drafted. A total of 17 players have been drafted in the university's history. Kindhart says the news reflects on the program's consistency.“You know, [with] Clay Harbor getting drafted by the Eagles last year and David this year, I think there’s certainly opportunities for additional exposure for our program. It shows we’re producing National Football League caliber players on a consistent level.” Dallas owner Jerry Jones personally called Arkin to give him the news. There’s a link to that conversation from our website, ksmu.org.For KSMU News, I’m Adam Hammons.
