Weekend Outlook July 16-18, 2021

Bluegrass music concerts are being held on weekends this summer at Roaring River State Park near Cassville.  The Flyin Buzzards Band will give a concert Friday night (7/9) at 7 at the River Shelter.  

The Discovery Center of Springfield presents Mess Fest each day through Sunday (7/18) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Take part in a variety of messy science experiments. Dress in old clothes.  General admission applies.  

The Branson Regional Arts Council presents “Peter Pan Jr.” Friday, Saturday and Sunday (7/16-7/18) at the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson.  

The Springfield Little Theatre Education Department will present “Grease School Edition” Friday and Saturday (7/16-7/17) at the Landers Theatre.  

A garage sale to benefit 4 the love of K9s will be held Friday and Saturday (7/16-7/17) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nixa Christian Church, 400 W. Northview in Nixa.  

The Movies at Founders Park Series continues this weekend at Founders Park in downtown Springfield.  See “All My Life,” rated PG-13, Friday night (7/16) and “Raya and the Last Dragon,” rated PG, Saturday night (7/17) at dusk.  Take blankets and lawn chairs.  Concessions will be available.  

Moonlight Movies in the Park will feature the film, “Raya and the Last Dragon,” Friday night (7/16) at 8 at 408 E. Bumgarner Blvd. in Strafford.  Rescue One will have adoptable dogs available for the public to meet.  Take blankets and lawn chairs.  

Rare Wine Rare Books will be held Friday night (7/16) at 6:30 at Missouri State University’s Meyer Library.  The event will include a six-flight wine menu and a full-course dinner.  The library will showcase rare books with a focus on Missouri history.  Tickets are $100.   

A Baseball Card & Collectors Show will be held at Battlefield Mall Friday through Sunday (7/16-7/18). 

“Friday 5K” is held each Friday night at 6 starting at the Steel Creek Boat Launch at the Buffalo National River.  Walk and talk with a ranger during the event.  Leashed pets are welcome.  

The program, “From the Hills to the Sea: Paddling our Way across the National Parks"will be held Friday night (7/16) at 8:30 at the Buffalo Point Amphitheater.  

The Springfield-Greene County Library will present “Disney Family Trivia” Friday night (7/16) at 7 online.  Registration is required.

Fishing pole rentals are available at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park in Springfield from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.  The cost to fish is $5 an hour with equipment rental, and the cost to fish with your own equipment is $1.50 an hour.  All fishing is catch-and-release.  Find out more here.  

The Springfield-Greene County Library and Include Ozarks will present the virtual program, “Play Together! Improving Social Skills through Play” Saturday morning (7/17) at 10 for adults. Learn how to have fun while teaching kids social skills.  Registration is required.  

The series, JOMO Jammin’ in July, presented by Connect2Culture, will be continue Saturday night (7/17) at 7 at Joplin’s Mercy Park with Fox Royale and Me Like Bees.  Take seating.  

Celebrate the upcoming National Avocado Day with an event Saturday(7/17) at 10 a.m. at the Springfield Botanical Gardens.  Kids will hear a story and make a craft.  

A virtual storytime, presented by the Springfield-Greene County Library for kids in preschool through second grade, will start Saturday morning (7/17) at 10.  Registration is required.  The Gillioz Theatre in downtown Springfield will present comedian, Brian Regan, Saturday night (7/17) at 7.  gillioztheatre.com/event/brian-regan-early-show/

The Fair Grove Historical and Preservation Society will hold their annual Ice Cream Social at the historic Wommack Mill in Fair Grove Saturday night (7/17) from 5:30 to 8:30.  

Conservatory of the Ozarks will present a community outreach concert at the Fair Grove Ice Cream Social at the historic Wommack Mill Saturday night (7/17) at 5:45.  

George Washington Carver National Monument will host Summer Jr. Ranger Day for kids 8 to 12-years-old Saturday (7/18) from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  They’ll learn what it’s like to be a park ranger and find out more about the park.  

A tour of the historic Boxley Grist Millat the Buffalo National River will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (7/17).  Registration is required, and space is limited.  

Finley River Movie Nights will feature the film, “Minions,” Saturday night (7/17) at Finley River Park in Ozark.  Take blankets and lawn chairs.  

The program, “Science for Artists: An Exploration,” will be held Saturday afternoon (7/17) at 4 at the Buffalo Point Boat Launch at the Buffalo National River.  Kids and parents will use the observational skills to examine natural processes of the river and the ecosystems around it.  

A program presented in Spanish will be held Saturday night (7/17) at 6 at the Collier Homestead at the Buffalo National River.  Learn more here.  

The program, “Zinc: Arkansas’ Natural Wealth,”will start at 8:30 Saturday night (7/17) at the Buffalo Point Amphitheater at the Buffalo National River.  Learn about the history of the Rush Mining Settlement and the history of zinc formation in the Ozarks.    

Fiber U will be held Saturday (7/17) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday (7/18) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cowan Civic Center in Lebanon.  Learn about fiber art.  

“Colors of Water: Watercolor Painting” will be held Sunday morning (7/18) at 9 at the Buffalo Point Launch parking lot at the Buffalo National River.  Paint with watercolor along the Buffalo River.  

A guided tour of Beaver Jim’s Farmstead at the Buffalo National River will be held Sunday morning (7/18) at 10.  Registration is required.  

The program,“Women in George Washington Carver’s Life,” will be held Sunday morning (7/18) at 11 at George Washington Carver National Monument.
