Springfield Seeks CARES Funding To Help Area's Homeless

The City of Springfield plans to apply for up to $2 million of CARES Act Community Development Block Grant funds to help the area’s homeless during the pandemic.

The funds are being distributed by the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

According to the city, in a 2020 survey, Springfield residents identified homeless services, transitional housing and homeless shelters as top priorities among the public service categories. The survey was part of the public input process for the city’s five-year consolidated plan.

If granted, the funds would allow the city to direct up to $2 million to provide essential support to local homeless agencies to address unmet needs.

The city is accepting public comments through next Tuesday to submit with the grant application.  You can send written comments to batchley@springfieldmo.gov.
