Legislation limiting who can receive workers' compensation gained final senate approval today. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.
By a vote of 23 to 9, the senate sent a measure to the House that limits the ability of workers to get compensated for their injuries.
The bill would require that work be the prevailing factor in an injury in order for employees to get compensation.
The bill sponsor is Republican Senator John Loudon.
Opponents of the measure complimented Loudon for working with them but some were still dissatisfied with the final product.
But opponents like Democratic Senator Tim Green say it doesn't do enough to crack down on insurance companies that don't pay legitimate claims.
But Loudon says there are penalties that prevent businesses and insurance companies from suing each other, something that some unions say has prevented workers from getting their compensation in a timely manner.
The proposal now moves to the House.
