House Majority Whip Roy Blunt was in Springfield today to talk about immigration legislation that's before the Congress. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

Speaking outside the Strafford Immigration and Customs Enforcement Center, Southwest Missouri Congressman and House Majority Whip Roy Blunt said the federal government needs to make it more difficult for foreign visitors to the U.S. to get a driver's license.

Blunt says the proposal would make it more difficult for illegal aliens to get a driver's license.

Blunt says the bill also would ensure that a license issued to foreign visitors runs out when their visa runs out.

Asylum laws are also addressed in this legislation.

Blunt says the bill would limit the options of foreign nationals claiming asylum.

Some opponents of the bill say they fear it will set up a national identification card.

Others complain it unfairly targets immigrants.

Blunt says the bill has the president's support but likely will face opposition in the Senate.
