Senator Proposes Cutting Health Coverage for Lawmakers

A state senator is proposing that lawmakers give up their health insurance if they're going to deny health coverage to tens of thousands of low-income Missourians. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

Democratic Senator Tim Green's bill would deny health coverage to all state representatives and senators.

He says if lawmakers knew what it was like to be without coverage, they might think twice about reducing the number of people who are eligible for Medicaid.

Green says it's hypocritical for lawmakers to keep their tax-payer funded health insurance while tens of thousands of Missourians are kicked off Medicaid to save money.

The proposal is up for consideration in a senate committee.
