Missouri Governor Says, Despite Pandemic, State Fair Still On For This Year

Missouri State Fair/Facebook

The Missouri State Fair will go on this year despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

A messageon the fair’s website states that the event, August 13-23 in Sedalia, will look different this year.  Livestock shows will continue, but details for vendors, sponsors and other partners are still being determined, according to the statement.

And during his Thursday press briefing, Governor Mike Parson said the state fair has only been canceled once in 100 years—during World War II.

"As an ag governor, I guess I want to say--somebody that comes from the farm--I don't want it to be the second time on my watch that it's canceled," said Parson.

The fair may have fewer hours and fewer days and some events might not happen, he said.

The Missouri State Fair Commission will make the final decision on what this year’s fair will look like.
