Springfield's ice skating rink, Jordan Valley Ice Park, is closed as the facility's ice plant undergoes repairs and upgrades. Both the east and west rinks are closed and are expected to reopen in mid-September.
The ice plant, which keeps the rink floors frozen, was taken offline in mid-August to undergo scheduled maintenance and repairs, according to the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. Ice plant operations were shifted to a temporary external unit behind the ice park that was installed to avoid interruption in services. But that unit experienced a pump failure in Late August forcing the Park Board to close the ice park.
The rink is expected to be back open in time for the Missouri Ice Bears home opener on October 4.
