More than three million people visited and stayed the night in Springfield in 2010, bringing over twenty-five million dollars to the local economy.
The Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau has launched a new ad campaign and website in hopes of bringing more visitors (and more money) to the area.
KSMU’s Brandon Goodwin reports.
[Sound: Laura Whisler talking. “So without further ado, let’s look at the new website”.]Laura Whisler, Marketing Director for the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, or CVB, unveils the redesigned, Springfieldmo.org. It’s the center piece of the Bureau’s new, one-million-dollar marketing campaign.“Something that you’ll notice that’s new and different about the site are the bright colors and the really inviting, fresh, new look. Our tag line is, ‘Welcome to the Middle of Everywhere,’ and we felt like this needed to be a key component of the site: that we’re welcoming people into our community,” she said. The home page features big, scrolling images of Fantastic Caverns, the Springfield Cardinals, and Bass Pro Shops. Below there’s a hand-drawn collage of local landmarks. The CVB has also produced ads for television, radio and the internet, targeting markets within a 500-mile radius of Springfield.“We want people to visit Springfield, stay overnight, spend lots of money at our attractions, restaurants, hotels and shops, and then go home and tell their friend about what a great experience they had,” she said. You can check out the new website for yourself at www.springfieldmo.org.For KSMU News, I’m Brandon Goodwin.
