Former 'The Price is Right' Host Has Street Named After Him
A well-known game show host was asked to 'come on down' this morning, in Springfield for a street re-naming ceremony in his honor. KSMU's Kristian Kriner was there and reports.
Drums and Drury students welcomed former “The Price is Right” host and Drury University graduate Bob Barker as he gazed upon his newly named street.Barker watched as a portion of Brower Street was re-named Bob Barker Boulevard.
He attended Central High School and graduated from Drury in 1947 with a degree in economics.
Barker says he feels honored that the Springfield City Council unanimously voted to rename a portion of Brower Street after him.
“I went to high school and college here in Springfield. I met and married my wife here in Springfield and Springfield has meant a great deal to me for years and years and years and to have Bob Barker Boulevard in Springfield, Missouri. I’m truly grateful for it. I really am,” Barker said.
Barker says he wants Bob Barker Boulevard to be the best street in Springfield.
“In New York, they have Park Avenue. In Hollywood, they have Sunset Strip. In Paris, they have Champs Elysees. In Springfield, Missouri, they have Bob Barker Boulevard," Barker said.
Barker says he has several great memories in Springfield and he loves coming back to honor those memories.
Mayor Tom Carlson also announced that September 26 would be Bob Barker Day in Springfield.
In true “The Price is Right” fashion, Barker left the ceremony reminding everyone to help control the pet population, by spaying or neutering their pets.
