Missouri State University’s Board of Governors has approved the creation of two new degrees.  The school hopes to offer a Doctor of Nursing Anesthesia Practice and a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Studies.  The programs would begin in the fall of 2014.

The proposal has to first be approved by the state’s Coordinating Board for Higher Education.

According to a release from the university, MSU has offered a Master’s degree in Nurse Anesthesia since 1996.  If approved, MSU’s new Doctorate program will replace the current Master’s program in that field.

In addition, the Master of Fine Arts in Visual Studies will encourage students to do their own studio research and find a personal voice in the arts. The university says the new facility in Brick City is perfect for a graduate program, because it fosters strong relationships with the community.

“Missouri State University is continually evaluating its degree programs to remain compliant with accrediting organizations and competitive with market demands,” said Dr. Frank Einhellig, Missouri State provost in the release. “We’re excited to begin offering both of these new degrees.”
