The Community Foundation of the Ozarks awards 150-thousand dollars to 13 agencies in Greene County for health and social services. KSMU's Christy Hendricks has the story.
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks will award 150-thousand dollars Tuesday to agencies in Greene County helping children in health and social services.
These awards are part of the Metropolitan Springfield Community Grantmaking for Springfield and Greene County program.
Randy Russell is the Senior Program Officer for the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
He says program will distribute 675-thousand dollars to agencies addressing "red flag" issues in the community.
Russell says a community focus report conducted by several organizations in the community finds that too many children in Springfield live in poverty.
Randy Russell says 200-thousand dollars will go toward the Enhancing Children's Healthy Opportunities project for kids in poverty at Campbell and Robberson Elementary schools.
Two more grant rounds with specific themes will make up the rest of the program.
Russell says the deadline for proposals addressing Arts, Culture, and the Environment is October sixth.
He says the grant rounds have different themes so issues won't compete with each other.
The last round of grant awards will be in the spring with the theme of education and community development.
Randy Russell says any non-profit organization can apply.
The CFO is funded by individuals in the community and serves communities across Southern Missouri.
