The Drury Campus in Cabool will hold a grand opening for its new facility July 23rd. Michele Skalicky has more.

Cabool area residents who want to attend Drury University will be able to do so in a facility all their own.

A new campus will be dedicated today (7/23), and its director, Lu Adams, says they're excited about the new facility.

Drury began offering classes in the evening at Cabool High School in 1989, and, over the past 18 years, they've had 1700 undergraduate students. 22 educators graduated from a new Masters in Education program in 2005. But leasing classroom space from the high school meant both professors and students didn't have their own space.

The new facility, the former Shoe Factory in Cabool, is being leased to Drury by owners Dennis Hunter and Dr. R. W. Stringer. The community members renovated the space to provide more readily accessible classroom space, especially during the daytime, for Drury's Cabool area students.

The new building has seven classrooms, including a science and computer lab, a conference room and office space, and funds are being raised to add an auditorium, among other things.

Adams says the new campus was a community effort.

The Cabool area will dedicate its new Drury Campus Monday July 23rd from 4 to 7 at 801 Walnut Street in Cabool. Food and beverages will be served, and guests will be offered tours of the new facility.
