All the hype around Cyber Monday and Black Friday means very little to those in our community who can't afford Christmas presents.  That's why Crosslines is stepping in once again to offer holiday food and toy baskets for our community's most vulnerable citizens. KSMU's Jennifer Davidson has more on the application process.

Crosslines gives holiday meals and toys for local families who meet income criteria.  The agency is now taking applications for this year’s round of giving.  The gifts are for households with children, as well as the elderly and the homebound.

You can fill out an application at the Crosslines Holiday Center—that’s at 615 N. Glenstone Ave. in Springfield.  Applicants must bring a piece of mail to verify that they live in Greene County. They must also bring a social security card for each  household member.

The last day to apply is Saturday, December 7.   The toy and food baskets will be distributed on December 21.

Crosslines operates as part of the Council of Churches of the Ozarks, a non-profit service organization that tries to improve the lives of Ozarks residents who need the most help. It consists of member churches and ministry partners.

According to Christine Moses, a spokeswoman for Council of Churches, Crosslines distributed Thanksgiving holiday food baskets for 1,025 families this year. For more information on the holiday assistance, you can call 865-5810.

For KSMU News, I’m Jennifer Davidson.
