Just weeks after Dr. Earle Doman, vice president of Student Affairs at Missouri State University, announced his retirement, three finalists are in line to take his place. Starting next week, the public can attend separate open forums and get to know each of the three candidates. KSMU’s Rebekah Clark has more.
Dr. Earle Doman announced his retirement after working at the school for 24 years. From 1976-1987, he served as the assistant dean of male students at the school. Then, in 2000, he came back to MSU to work as the vice president for 13 years.
Since the announcement, the school put together a search committee to find a new vice president of Student Affairs. This week, they announced three finalists for the position, and plan to have each visit the campus next week for an official day-long interview process.
Part of that process is a public forum where students, campus members and community members can come, learn about the candidate, and ask questions. Kyle Moats, the director of athletics at MSU, is the chair of the search committee.
“All three of the candidates will be escorted and meet with various constituents on campus. Then the open forums will be basically a few things the candidate will talk about. They will talk about themselves, maybe have a question or two that we’d like for them to answer, then open up to the general public.”
Whichever candidate is picked for the position will have their hand in basically every aspect of student affairs on campus, Moat says.
“You’ve got everything from enrollment management, to campus rec and intramurals, discipline, Greek life…there’s a multitude of things that this position oversees. They’re all student related. It certainly works very closely with admissions and over housing as well. So everything involved with the students, this position oversees.”
The first forum is scheduled for next Monday, April 22 at 2 p.m. in Plaster Student Union. For more information, including the biographies of each candidate, visit our website.
