Southwest Airlines begins service out of the Branson Airport Saturday (March 9th). KSMU’s Melanie Foehrweiser has details.

According to a release from the Branson Airport, Southwest service will include one daily nonstop flight to Dallas Love Field, Houston Hobby, and Chicago Midway, as well as a Saturday-only nonstop flight to Orlando. AirTran Airways, which merged with Southwest last year, will stop its service to Branson March 8th. The new Southwest flights will almost triple the number of seats to and from the Branson Airport, compared to what AirTran provided.

In celebration of the first Southwest flight arrival, the Branson Airport will host a kickoff event Saturday. The airport is calling the event the “Ultimate Tailgate Party,” and will feature a concert. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with the first plane arriving around 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

For KSMU news, I’m Melanie Foehrweiser.
