National Weather Service Meteorologist Jason Schaumann says the main threat this morning is locally heavy rain…
He says storms this morning could produce some small hail and frequent lightning strikes.
Later this afternoon and tonight, he says the severe weather threat will drastically increase across all of the Missouri Ozarks.
According to Schaumann, all modes of severe weather will be possible…
"That would include damaging straight-line winds, tornadoes and large hail. What we currently think may happen is once we get later this afternoon and this evening, you may see what are called super cell thunderstorms develop across portions of the Missouri Ozarks, and those storms would have the potential to produce very large hail the size of golf balls, damaging straight line winds over 60 miles per hour, and there would be that threat for a tornado with those, too," he said.
The National Weather Service expects a line of severe storms to develop this evening across eastern Oklahoma and shift northeast. Schaumann says those would impact a large portion of the Missouri Ozarks from late this evening into the overnight hours…
"If that were to indeed occur, we'd be looking at a damaging straight line wind threat up to 70 miles per hour. That threat would continue for isolated tornadoes imbedded within that line," he said.
Schaumann says flash flooding is also a threat overnight.
He says you should pay attention to the weather—keep a weather radio nearby if you have one.
According to Schaumann, the severe weather threat will continue into tomorrow.
