He wasn’t the co-winner of a split 587.5 million Powerball jackpot drawn last month, but Springfield’s Paul Becker is one of eight Missouri players to win $10,000.

Becker matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball on November 28.

“Very much shock… very much shock. Like, I’ve never won anything. Nothing more than maybe two bucks,” Becker said.

It’s only the second time Becker had played the game, the first coming the week before the winning Powerball ticket was drawn. That fell short, but the second ticket proved to be the charm.

“I just happened to be behind my general manager at the gas station and he was just like, ‘oh dude you’ve got to purchase one.’ So he talked me into it and I was like, ‘alright whatever.’ So I purchased it. Whenever we saw the numbers initially we didn’t know what to think. We were kind of freaking out and so I called my boss and asked him what it meant.”

Cindy and Mark Hill of Dearborn, Missouri collected half of the advertised prize, or $293.7 million. A player from Arizona won the other half of the jackpot.
