Boys and Girls Town of Missouri in Springfield is getting some financial help thanks to local business owner and philanthropist Jim D. Morris. KSMU’s Chasity Mayes has details.
This week, Morris donated an undisclosed amount of money to the organization. Boys and Girls Town of Missouri and Edgewood Children’s Center have merged to become one of Missouri’s largest non-profit organizations called Great Circle.
Chip Wolf is vice president of Great Circle’s Southwest region. He says the amount of the grant, and specifics on what it will be used for, aren’t being released. However, he says one thing’s for sure: the new fund is going to help some of Springfield’s neediest citizens.
“Whenever possible, we want the maximum amount of dollars to go directly to kids, kids services, and taking care of kids. So, what it really does is help us close a gap in funding that, quite frankly, exists really across the board for private agencies who are providing care and treatment for abused and neglected children,” says Wolf.
To honor Morris, Boys and Girls Town has started the Jim D. Morris Endowed Fund for Children. Boys and Girls Town provides a safe environment and ongoing treatment programs for children who suffer from emotional and behavioral disorders, or who suffer from abuse and neglect.
