The Missouri Department of Mental Health has been awarded its third Access to Recovery grant. KSMU's Chasity Mayes has more.
Totaling 13 million dollars, the grant, which is being awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will make treatment available to Missourians with substance abuse problems. Over three million dollars of that amount will be available in the first year with the rest to follow over a three year period. Groups that will take priority when it comes to the specialized services include: veterans, previous offenders returning to the community, and other disadvantaged populations. Under the first two grants, nearly 100,000 individuals and their families benefited from Access to Recovery funded services.
Besides clinical treatment, the grant will provide support in finding housing, employment and transportation.
For KSMU News, I’m Chasity Mayes.
