The Springfield-Branson National Airport has found a tenant for its old terminal building. KSMU’s Jennifer Moore reports.

The online travel company Expedia will be moving into the building next month, according to the airport’s director of aviation, Gary Cyr.

“We’re going to have it prepared for them to be able to take over and start their infield activity approximately March 28,” said Cyr. He added that the airport will need to remove the former ticket counters and furniture to clear out the building.

Expedia.com is one of the world’s leading online travel companies, and offers vacation packages, airline tickets, car rentals, cruises and hotel reservations.

Cyr says Expedia will rent the old terminal building for 236,000 dollars per year, and the initial contract is for five years.

The online travel company has been working for six months with the airport and other agencies, including the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce and the Missouri Department of Economic Development, to come to the agreement.

Cyr said he did not know whether Expedia plans to hire locally to outfit the new offices, or whether the company will bring employees from its other locations.
