CoxHealth, one of the leading hospitals in the Ozarks region, publicly announced Wednesday that it mistakenly gave 76 patients too much radiation. KSMU's Chasity Mayes reports.
Robert Bezanson, president and CEO of CoxHealth, addressed reporters at a somber press conference Wednesday afternoon.The health care provider says the patients have been notified by phone or letter, and that the wrong doses of radiation were given between the years of 2004 and 2009. The hospital says all of those patients were receiving radiation for brain tumors. They are attributing the mistake to human error, and said the doctor who administered the wrong doses no longer works at CoxHealth.
Cox says it’s trying to meet in person with all affected patients. It has set up a call center for people who have additional questions. That number is 269-5363.
