Missouri Veterans are fighting a new war as they call on their Congressman to make big decisions regarding oil and national security. KSMU’s Chasity Mayes reports.

The VoteVets.org action Fund is a pro-military organization founded by Veterans of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On a conference call with reporters this week, these vets say their goal is to force Congressman Roy Blunt to make a choice between relying foreign oil, or supporting a clean energy plan that would make the US more energy independent. They’re asking Blunt to return campaign contributions over a million dollars, which they say he received from big oil companies. VoteVets say they feel those contributions are standing in the way of true energy independence.

Mike Eveans, a member of VoteVets.org says when Congressman Blunt took money from the oil industry he compromised national security.

“People need to know that instead of supporting efforts to free us from our dangerous reliance Congressman Blunt took at least one million 52 thousand dollars from the oil industry and took their side against the best interest of our security,” Eveans said.

Jackie Rodgers Jr., Mike Eveans, and William Froeschner all spoke during the conference stating their biggest issues as veterans is compromising the country’s security by giving billions of dollars to countries with terrorist activity.

The vets also announced that they will be sending out “robocalls” to phones across Blunts district trying to talk to voters on energy issues.

When asked about where this group receives its funding, VoteVets.org member William Froeschner wouldn’t say.
