The Greene County Clerk’s office has announced the steps local candidates need to take if they plan to run for office. KSMU’s Justin Lux has more.

Filing for county offices begins Tuesday, February 23, at the County’s Clerk office inside the Greene County Courthouse at 940 Boonville Avenue. Filing will begin at 8 a.m. and candidates have until 5 p.m. on March 30 to sign up.

Richard Struckhoff, the Greene County Clerk, is in charge of public elections in the county. "In Greene County there are a number of offices, including county committee, for their respective parties. In addition to that county auditor, circuit clerk, collector of revenue, county clerk, presiding commissioner, prosecuting attorney and recorder of deeds. All of those offices will be contested in 2010," says Struckhoff.

Candidates who wish to run for a state office, such as state representative, state senator or state auditor must file with the Secretary of State’s office in Jefferson City.

For KSMU news, I’m Justin Lux.
