Two first ladies met in Mansfield, Missouri, Friday for a tour of a historic museum. KSMU’s Kristian Kriner reports.
American flags and Mansfield residents lined the main strip in Mansfield waiting to catch a glimpse of First Lady Laura Bush.
Missouri’s First Lady Melanie Blunt welcomed Mrs. Bush to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Mansfield, Friday.
While residents waited, Mrs. Bush took a private tour of the museum and the Laura Ingalls Wilder home, which is just down the street.
Waiting on the street with flags and signs were members of the Wright County Republican Women.
Cathern Long, president of the organization, says they were out on street to support Laura and George Bush.
“I’m really excited. I think it’s wonderful and Laura Bush is a fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder and so I think it’s really cool that she would come here today,” Long said.
Mellene Schudy, who was holding a sign that, said “We love Laura! And George too!” says Mansfield is the perfect place for Mrs. Bush to visit.
“With Mrs. Bush’s’ emphasis on education it’s a very appropriate place for to come. I think it’s wonderful. I wish that things were in this country where we could have her for a tea or to really celebrate having the First Lady here," Schudy said.
The two ladies say even if they don’t get to see Laura Bush, they’re glad she took the time to visit a smaller town like Mansfield.
