Ozarks Food Harvest Collecting for Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month here in the Ozarks. KSMU's Jamie Givens reports on how this will affect the hungry in the region.

Ozarks Food Harvest is trying to raise more than 100,000 pounds of food for the needy.

Matt Petcoff is the communications coordinator for Ozarks Food Harvest.

Feeding America is the nation's largest charitable hunger-relief organization and has teamed up with Country Music Television and country star Phil Vassar for this national month of awareness.

In the Ozarks, right now, more than 150,000 people are living in poverty. About 50,000 of them are children.

Ozarks Food Harvest distributes more than five-million pounds of food annually to the more than 350 hunger relief organizations.

Each month Ozarks Food Harvest helps to reach more than 40,000 people in nearly thirty counties in southwest Missouri.

In Springfield, donors can drop off non-perishable food items at Ozarks Food Harvest at 615 North Glenstone.
