The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was in Springfield today to speak to members of the faith community who gathered for a workshop on emergency readiness. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was in Springfield today (Monday) to speak to members of the faith community who gathered for a workshop on emergency readiness.

About 50 people gathered to hear Dr. Julie Gerberding, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She talked about emerging diseases around the world. She gave an example from India.

Gerberding says since the attacks of September 11th, the CDC has tried to be more open and more efficient in its response to emergencies around the world and in this country.

For those in the faith-based community who missed the workshop, information on emergency preparedness is available from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department by calling Molly Holtmann at 864-1083.
