Winter isn't hard only on people, pets have to endure the cold temperatures as well. The Humane Society of Missouri has some tips on how to care for pets in the winter. KSMU's Christy Hendricks reports.
Cold weather has arrived and the Humane Society of Missouri says the low temperatures can take their toll on pets.
The Humane Society offers several tips for keeping pets safe during the winter.
Donald Bridges is the Director of Veterinary Medicine for the Humane Society of Missouri.
He says pets, especially older and younger ones, should be brought indoors during cold weather.
Dr. Bridges says providing adequate shelter for outside pets is important.
He recommends placing doghouse doorways facing south and putting straw in them for insulation.
He says you should protect pets from antifreeze.
Donald Bridges recommends checking your pet's water two to three times a day and says pets need more food in the winter.
