An SMS professor has received a grant for his project that investigates how DNA is repaired. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

A D-N-A research project at S-M-S has received a grant that exceeds 35 thousand dollars.

S-M-S assistant chemistry professor Gary Meints has received a grant from the Research Corporation for a D-N-A project that examines how D-N-A is repaired.

Meints says his research has practical implications and could help with cancer and other disease research.

Meints says this research project also has practical implications for S-M-S students.

He says research is a component of many chemistry courses at S-M-S.

In addition to paying for a student worker, funds from the grant will help Meints purchase chemicals and other supplies for the project.
