Missouri Delegates Are Ready

The Republican National Convention gets underway today in New York City. KSMU's Missy Shelton is there to cover 57 Missouri's delegates. She caught up with a few of them Sunday afternoon and asked them how they're feeling about the start of the convention. THERE'S NO QUESTION HOW THESE DELEGATES ARE FEELING'JUST ASK MICHELLE COLBERT, A DELEGATE ATTENDING THE CONVENTION FOR THE FIRST TIME.

THIS IS THE FIRST NATIONAL POLITICAL CONVENTION THAT DELEGATES MARY DAILY AND DAVID DUNKAN HAVE ATTENDED.

ON SUNDAY, THE DELEGATES DIDN'T HAVE ANY OFFICIAL BUSINESS SCHEDULED'THEY PICKED UP THEIR CREDENTIALS AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HAVING A FREE DAY TO SEE THE CITY.

MARY DAILY AND HER HUSBAND MADISON HAD SOME PRE-CONVENTION EXCITEMENT SUNDAY WHEN THEY BECAME PART OF A NATIONAL BROADCAST.

THIS ISN'T MARY DAILY'S FIRST TRIP TO NEW YORK'AND SHE SAYS SHE NOTICIED THE CITY SEEMS DIFFERENT THIS TIME.

MARY DAILY ISN'T THE ONLY DELEGATE WHO'S TAKEN NOTE OF THE INCREASED POLICE PRESENCE.

MISSOURI DELEGATE DAVID DUNCAN.

GIVEN THAT SENSE OF SECURITY, MISSOURI DELEGATE MICHELLE COLBERT AND OTHERS IN THE DELEGATION HEADED OUT FOR A NIGHT ON THE TOWN SUNDAY'

NOW THAT THE DELEGATES HAVE HAD THE AUTHENTIC NEW YORK EXPERIENCE OF SEEING A BROADWAY SHOW, THEY'LL TURN THEIR ATTENTION TO MORE SERIOUS MATTERS.

STEVE BANTON SAYS THERE'S SOMETHING MOMENTOUS ABOUT PARTICIPATING IN A NATIONAL POLITICAL EVENT LIKE THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION.

AND WHILE SOME THINK OF THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE CONVENTION AS A WAY TO BE A PART OF HISTORY, SOME THINK OF IT AS A WAY TO MAKE HISTORY.

DR. WAYNE COOPER, A STATE REPRESENTATIVE AND DELEGATE SAYS THE CONVENTION IS VITAL TO ENSURING REPUBLICANS ARE SUCCESSFUL IN MISSOURI THIS NOVEMBER.

THE 57 MISSOURI DELEGATES WILL SPEND THEIR TIME THIS WEEK LISTENING TO MEMBERS OF THE ADMINISTRATION SPEAK ABOUT THE ELECTION, ATTENDING THE CONVENTION SESSIONS AND TAKING SOME TIME TO SEE THE SIGHTS.
