U.S.Senator Kit Bond was in Springfield Tuesday to talk about his legislation dealing with elderly abuse and neglect. KSMU's Missy Shelton has this report.

U-S SENATOR KIT BOND OF MISSOURI WAS IN SPRINGFIELD TUESDAY, LISTENING TO THE CONCERNS OF SENIOR CITIZENS.

ABOUT 60 INDIVIDUALS TURNED OUT FOR THE EVENT.

HE HELD THE FORUM TO PROMOTE HIS LEGISLATION THAT'S DESIGNED TO BRING ATTENTION TO ABUSE AND NEGLECT OF THE ELDERLY.

BOND SAYS THERE ARE NO FEDERAL WORKERS WHOSE SOLE FUNCTION IS TO ADDRESS ISSUES RELATED TO ELDER ABUSE.

AND HE POINTS OUT FUNDING FOR ELDER ABUSE IS SMALL WHEN COMPARED TO SPENDING ON CHILD ABUSE AND DOMESTIC ABUSE.

HE SAYS HIS BILL WOULD PUT MORE MONEY AND RESOURCES INTO THE HANDS OF LOCAL AGENCIES THAT DEAL WITH ABUSE OF THE ELDERLY.

BOND TOOK SEVERAL QUESTIONS FROM MEMBERS OF THE AUDIENCE'INCLUDING ONE FROM ANN FREEMAN'SHE'S WITH A LOCAL GROUP CALLED RETIRED MILITARY WIDOWS.
