Changes Occurring in the SPS District

SPS

In this edition of Making Democracy Work, Lisa Langley talks with Springfield Public Schools superintendent, Dr. John Jungmann, about what's happening in the district.

Dr. Jungmann says the summer school program has undergone changes this year.  Nearly 8500 students are participating this year--a significant increase--and transportation was offered to summer classes.  The changes are part of a strategic plan developed with feedback from community members.

Some changes for the next school year include the opening of Sherwood Elementary in its new location and shutting down the Fremont building for renovations.  New technology will be going to 18 schools this fall as part of Ignite, a plan that focuses on "access to relevant, engaging learning environment for every student," according to Jungmann.

She enjoys working on both the announcing side and in news and has been the recipient of statewide and national awards for news reporting. She likes to tell stories that make a difference. Michele enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, camping and leisurely kayaking.
