The Missouri Lottery is crediting January’s record-setting Powerball jackpot to an all-time high in public education proceeds.

According to a news release, the lottery’s Feb. 11 transfer of $42.1 million to public education is the highest monthly transfer ever in its 30-year history. The next closest transfer was $30.3 million in April 2012.

Programs funded in part by lotto sales in fiscal year 2016 include the A+ Scholarship Program, the Foundation Program and Access Missouri, among others.

Missouri Lottery Executive Director May Scheve Reardon also points out that last month’s $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot equated to a $1 million prize drawn in St. Louis, plus 34 prizes worth $50,000 sold to players across the state.

The Missouri Lottery had said that the record Powerball jackpot in January was bringing all-time highs in ticket sales to the state.
