Conservation Families: Wildflower Walk

Conservation Families: Wildflower Walk

Now is when native wildflowers are beginning to add a variety of colors to the outdoors landscape. That means it’s a great time to take a walk in the outdoors.

People can see some of the native wildflowers that are showing their colors and get information on the habitat roles these plants play at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) program “Conservation Families: Wildflower Walk.” This program will be 10-11 a.m. May 27 at MDC’s Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center, which is located at 201 W. Riviera Drive in Joplin. People can register at:

At the May 27 program, MDC Naturalist Jessie Ballard will lead participants in a mile walk along the trails around the Shoal Creek Center. She’ll discuss how native wildflowers are pretty to the eye and important for insects and other area wildlife. She will also talk about how native wildflowers can add beauty and habitat to people’s yards and gardens. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and should dress for the weather. This program is designed for ages 12 and up.

Though this program is free, registration is required to participate using the link above.

People can stay informed about upcoming programs at MDC’s Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center and other MDC facilities by signing up for text alerts and e-mail bulletins. People who have questions about how to sign up for text alerts from the Shoal Creek Center can call 417-629-3434.

Staff at MDC facilities across the state are holding in-person and virtual programs. A listing of these programs can be found at mdc.mo.gov/events.
