NWS: Joplin, Stockton, Carthage Under Ice Storm Warning

The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued an Ice Storm Warning for parts of the Missouri Ozarks region beginning Wednesday night and extending through Thursday at noon.

According to the NWS, "significant accumulations of freezing rain and sleet are expected" generally north of a line from Joplin to Stockton to Versailles.

Meteorologist Steve Lindenberg with the NWS told KSMU Wednesday that areas south of Highway 60 could also get significant rain; low-water crossings may become flooded.

Much of KSMU's listening area is also at risk for severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes Wednesday night as well;  a much colder airmass is coming into the region, and temperatures will fall to around 22 degrees by noon Thursday.

Counties included in the Ice Storm Warning are:

Missouri and Kansas cities included in the Ice Storm Warning are:

Fort Scott, Pawnee Station, Chicopee, Lone Oak, Pittsburg, Baxter Springs, Lowell, Riverton, Columbus, Neutral, Sherwin, Stippville, Warsaw, Whitakerville, Cole Camp, Crockerville, Mora, Edmonson, Lincoln, Versailles, Rocky Mount, Stover, Laurie, Nevada, Tiffin, Appleton City, Johnson City, Weaubleau, Hermitage, Quincy, Wheatland, Cross Timbers, Kenoma, Lamar, Cedar Springs, El Dorado Springs, Filley, Arnica, Caplinger Mills, Stockton, Joplin, and Carthage
