Greenwood School, MSU Dormitory Evacuated As Crews Respond To Gas Leak

Missouri State University

MSU officials say emergency crews responded to a gas leak on the Missouri State University campus near Bear Blvd and the Transit way Friday morning.

That's about two blocks west of National Avenue.

Amy Castaneda, who works in MSU Campus Safety, said Greenwood Laboratory School was evacuated and those in the nearby Hutchens House dormitory had also been notified of the need to evacute.

Around 9:38 AM, a campus-wide alert urged anyone in the facility to leave that area and others to keep a safe distance so that emergency responders and hazmat teams can do their work.

At 10:06 AM, another campus alert said the following:

"An all clear has been issued for the gas leak at Bear Blvd and the transitway. All occupants may return to their location. The Blair-Shannon dining hall is currently closed due to the gas being turned off to the area. Emergency vehicles will remain in the area for some additional time."

Neither alert identified the cause of the gas leak.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
