Caregivers and people suffering from Alzheimer’s can be overwhelmed during the holidays, but the Alzheimer’s Association is sharing some tips to help keep holiday traditions without causing too much confusion.
- Arrange a meeting ahead of the holidays with family and friends to discuss celebrations and set realistic goals.
- Be flexible. For example, celebrating over lunch rather than an evening meal can be an alternative for people with Alzheimer’s who get more confused in the evenings.
- Keep people with Alzheimer’s involved in their favorite holiday traditions, but don’t take on too many tasks.
- Provide people with useful and enjoyable gift suggestions such as photo albums of family and friends or CDs of the person’s favorite music.
