Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield invites you to take part in a national event today (4/9).  For the last four years, the National Park Service and other organizations have taken part in “Bells Across the Land:  A Nation Remembers Appomattox.”  The event commemorates the surrender of Confederate forces, under General Robert E. Lee, to Union Forces, under General Ulysses S. Grant, at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia.

Bells will ring across the country to remember that event and the subsequent end of the American Civil War.

The bells will ring first at Appomattox at 2 o’clock central time todayand then will reverberate across the country.

Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield invites everyone to take part by ringing a hand bell or a cellphone bell for four minutes beginning at 2:15 this afternoon.
