After discovering that some ceilings at Williams Elementary in Springfield are similar to one that collapsed at another district elementary school, officials decided to move classes today. KSMU's Michele Skalicky has more.

Wednesday, a local architectural firm determined nails that were too small for the job caused a ceiling to collapse Tuesday night at Sunshine Elementary. Butler, Rosenbury & Partners advised the Springfield School District to investigate whether or not other schools in the district were built at the same time, in the same way.Late Wednesday the district determined that some parts of the ceiling at Williams Elementary are similar to the section of ceiling that collapsed at Sunshine. While district officials say there’s no evidence to indicate the ceiling at Williams might collapse, they’re taking every precaution to ensure students and staff are safe. So, today, classes for Williams students will be held at National Heights Baptist Church, 3050 N. National. Students should arrive at Williams at their regular time, and they’ll be bused to the church. For more information, go to www.springfieldpublicschoolsmo.org.
