Monday night, Springfield City Council voted to clear the way for Missouri State University to expand Jordan Valley Innovation Center, also known as JVIC. KSMU's Erika Brame was at the meeting and files this report.

Council approved a measure that allows Missouri State University to buy certain properties north of the square in downtown Springfield.

Council member Mary Collette says this project will benefit the entire Springfield area.

"So I just think it's a terrific project and it's exciting for the future Springfield and for ... the potential for good paying jobs to stay in our community. So that those young boy scouts back there will want to stay here and work when they graduate from college. So it's a great project."

This project is designed to open up research opportunities to other universities and high schools along with Missouri State students

We have a link for more information about the project at our website KSMU dot ORG
