The Child Advocacy Center on Walnut Street in Springfield has served more than 17,000 children since it opened 20 years ago. Its development director, Linda Regan, said, instead of going from agency to agency and telling their story over and over, a child suspected of being abused, can instead go to the center for a forensic examination and interview.
"And so now, all these big people work collaboratively as a team. Behind the scenes at our center, law enforcement watches the interview. The child tells their story one time," she said.
An event June 4th will raise money for the Child Advocacy Center. Over the Edge, a special events company that helps nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and abroad raise funds, will help people rappel down the side of Sky Eleven, formerly the Woodruff Building.
"It's about 125 feet. It's about 10 stories tall," said Regan.
Those who want to take part must raise a minimum of $1000—the amount it costs the CAC to serve one child.
The rappelling event is part of an all-day festival, which will also include Run to the Edge and Bike to the Edge as well as children’s activities and a beer garden.
